Undrafted Dolphins rookie RB retires just 4 days after signing for minicamp
As Jeff Hafley steps into his role as head coach, he is looking to evaluating the Miami Dolphins’ roster as much as possible throughout the offseason. But one running back has already bowed out of the race.
Le’Veon Moss has been placed on the reserve/retired list, via David Furones of the Sun Sentinel. His retirement comes just four days after signing with the Dolphins for minicamp.
While the decision seems sudden, Moss isn’t the only one to retire shortly after signing with an NFL franchise. Squirrel White of the Chicago Bears and Jordan White of the Jacksonville Jaguars made the same decision as the running back shortly after minicamp. Ultimately, the NFL is a grind and all three were undrafted free agents. Their path to making an NFL roster let alone an impact included a 90 degree mountain they had to climb.
But why Moss made his decision is ultimately up to him. All the Dolphins know is that he won’t be in their offensive plans throughout the offseason.
The running back spent all four of his collegiate seasons at Texas A&M, appearing in 32 games. Moss ran for 1,767 yards and 22 touchdowns, including a career-high 10 in 2024. He was awarded Second-team All-SEC for his efforts that season.
When it comes to Dolphins running backs, all eyes remain on De’Von Achane. While Moss could’ve theoretically worked into his backup plans, there are a number of other rushers he would need to jump on the depth chart. Miami will now focus on those options when building out their RB room.
