Underdog dares Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to fight back after cease and desist

It’s nearly impossible to scour social media during the NBA playoffs thus far and not find somebody ranting about Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his perceived flopping. In the midst of the dialogue, social media company Underdog is releasing a limited edition board game poking fun at the Thunder star, only representatives of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have threatened litigation should they proceed.

A day after Underdog received a cease and desist warning from an attorney representing the MVP, the company announced that they have no intention of halting their game, as per Ben Horney of Front Office Sports.

At the center of the controversy is a board game entitled, ‘Unethical Hoops,’ a play on the old children’s game ‘Operation.’ But instead of trying to remove organs from a patient, players are trying to take a basketball away from an NBA player without committing a foul. The player featured on the game bares striking resemblance to the Thunder star although not identified by name.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s representatives are claiming that it’s a likeness issue with Underdog not receiving proper permission to use his image.

With Underdog refusing to bend as of now, winners are set to be announced on Friday. Fans had to submit their name for a chance to own a copy as only 100 units were produced. The initial announcement of the game even featured Phoenix Suns guard Dillon Brooks.

When it comes to the actual on-court play, Gilgeous-Alexander is second in the league for the playoffs in terms of free-throw attempts at 10.3.
