WWE champion Chelsea Green suffers injury scare during SmackDown taping

Currently, interim Women’s Champion WWE star Chelsea Green is dealing with an injury, but she almost suffered another during a pre-taped episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the Aug. 28 edition of SmackDown.

During the Aug. 28, 2026, edition of SmackDown, which was pre-taped on Monday, Aug. 24, Green teamed up with Tiffany Stratton to face the Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax and Lash Legend).

At one point, the WWE medical staff tried to take her backstage. This is her first match since suffering the broken orbital bone injury during the SmackDown after SummerSlam 2026.

Fans were left speculating about the legitimacy and severity of the injury. It sounds like she returned to the ring to finish the match, but her team still lost. Hopefully, she is okay.

Green has had some bad luck in recent weeks. At SummerSlam 2026, she finally captured her first-ever world championship. She beat the likes of former world champions such as Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, and Stratton to win the interim Women’s Championship.

WWE held the ladder match to determine an interim champion as Rhea Ripley recovers from a torn meniscus. Green ended up breaking an orbital bone during her next televised match during the Aug. 7 edition of SmackDown. She and Stratton lost to Fatal Influence’s Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid.

That was a devastating blow to Green. Initially, it looked like general manager Nick Aldis was going to force her to relinquish the championship. Instead, he gave her 30 days to get medically cleared to compete. It appears she came through, judging by the spoiler results for the Aug. 28 edition of SmackDown.

For most of her career, Green was used as a midcard talent. She was the inaugural Women’s United States Champion in 2024 and has won the title once since. However, she is now in the main event scene as the interim Women’s Champion.
