UFC legend Diego Sanchez arrested for DUI and violating gun charge probation

UFC legend Diego Sanchez has been arrested again. Recently, reports emerged that the 44-year-old was arrested in New Mexico on allegations of aggravated driving under the influence and violating the terms of his probation. This unfortunately added another legal complication for the UFC veteran just months after he avoided prison in a previous firearm case.

As per court records that local Albuquerque news outlet KOB 4 obtained, Sanchez was booked into the Socorro County Jail on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026. The records show aggravated DWI and a gun charge probation violation among the charges against him. According to the report, Sanchez was arrested after being sentenced to probation for discharging a firearm into the air during a traffic jam on Interstate 40 in Albuquerque.

As per a criminal complaint, police were called on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, in the afternoon to a Valero gas station north of Socorro after an employee reported that a man had followed a woman to a restroom and was banging on the door.

When officers arrived at the scene, they spotted Sanchez stumbling toward a vehicle. Police administered field sobriety tests. However, the tests had to be stopped due to concern for Sanchez’s safety. According to the complaint, Sanchez was unable to keep his balance and also had difficulty following instructions.

A few months ago, in Mar. 2026, Sanchez was sentenced after he pleaded guilty in a case stemming from a 2025 traffic incident in Albuquerque. Last year in Jul. 2025, Sanchez was arrested on gun charges in Albuquerque after he allegedly fired from a moving vehicle as his friend drove past.

An extremely talented fighter, Sanchez boasts a celebrated career and was also inducted in the 2019 UFC Hall of Fame.
