BMW PGA Championship 2026 dates, full field, leaderboard and prize money for superstar event

Golf’s top stars from around the world will battle it out for the $9million purse at the 2026 BMW PGA Championship next week.

Sweden’s Alex Noren beat Adrien Saddier in a playoff at Wentworth last September to win the DP World Tour’s flagship event.

Noren claimed victory after holding off a packed leaderboard which included Patrick Reed, Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton and Matt Fitzpatrick.

Now, Rory McIlroy, who recently moved into a new mansion on the Wentworth estate, will headline the tournament this year alongside a host of quality names.

The Race to Dubai is heating up and the BMW PGA always plays a vital role in the season-long competition with 8,000 points on offer.

Reed currently leads McIlroy in the standings, setting up what could be a classic shootout between the famous Ryder Cup rivals for the rest of the year.

BMW PGA Championship: Dates and how to follow

The 2026 BMW PGA Championship is taking place from Thursday, September 17 to Sunday, September 20.

It is being held on the West Course at Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, Surrey.

The course will be a par 72 and has a yardage of 7,267 yards. 

Wentworth is famous for its back-to-back par 5s to finish which offer plenty of drama late on.

The action will get up and running at 7:15am UK time each day.

Sky Sports Golf will broadcast the action throughout the week with their coverage starting at 8:30am each day.

BMW PGA Championship: Field and leaderboard

Being the DP World Tour’s signature event, the BMW PGA Championship has a star-studded field yet again this year.

McIlroy is the main name and is joined in the field by Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and Shane Lowry.

Robert MacIntyre, Viktor Hovland, Ludvig Aberg are also teeing it up alongside Americans Reed, JJ Spaun, Alex Smalley and Brooks Koepka.

A number of LIV Golf players are in action too including Jon Rahm, Joaquin Niemann and Tyrrell Hatton.

Aaron Rai and Ryan Fox, who both won major titles this summer, will be involved.

The latest leaderboard will also follow soon and this event has a total purse of $9million with the winner taking home over $1.3m.

BMW PGA Championship: What has been said?

McIlroy and Rahm will provide plenty of star power at Wentworth.

McIlroy, champion in 2014, said: “I’ve had some great results at Wentworth in the past, and I always enjoy returning to the BMW PGA Championship.

“No doubt the crowds will be out in force once again, and I’m looking forward to the week.”

And Rahm, who has been runner-up in this event twice, added: “I’ve come close a couple of times at the BMW PGA Championship, so It’s definitely a tournament and a venue that I enjoy coming back to.

“Everything about it, from the fans to the history of the event, makes it a special week and I would love to go one better and lift the trophy this year.”
