Thunder guard Alex Caruso perfectly sums up playing with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Alex Caruso perfectly summarized what it is like playing alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander following Wednesday night’s 122-113 Game 2 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals.
The veteran guard publicly backed the reigning back-to-back NBA MVP after Gilgeous-Alexander responded from a difficult Game 1 performance with another dominant postseason outing to help the Thunder even the series at 1-1.
Caruso’s comments further reinforced the Thunder’s trust in SGA as the team’s unquestioned leader and late-game closer during another high-pressure playoff run. Social media account Oh No He Didn’t later took to X, formerly Twitter, sharing Caruso’s praise for Gilgeous-Alexander following the bounce-back win at Paycom Center.
“He doesn’t need any help being confident. He obviously has the accolades…we know he’s getting the ball, they know he’s getting the ball and we want him to shoot…he’s been there before he’ll be there many times again and will ride with our guy”

Caruso’s remarks came after Gilgeous-Alexander delivered one of his strongest performances of the postseason during the Thunder’s massive must-win Game 2. The superstar finished with 30 points, nine dimes, four boards, two blocks, and a steal while shooting 12-for-24 from the field as OKC avoided falling into a 2-0 series deficit before heading to San Antonio for Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.
The performance carried additional significance after Gilgeous-Alexander struggled during the Thunder’s double-overtime loss in Game 1, where he shot 7-for-23 from the floor and later accepted responsibility for the defeat during his postgame media session. Despite that difficult outing, the two-time champion Caruso publicly reiterated the locker room’s confidence in the NBA MVP and reinforced the team’s willingness to continue leaning on him during critical moments.
The Thunder and Spurs will now shift the Western Conference Finals to San Antonio for Game 3 on Friday night, with the series tied 1-1.
