Breanna Stewart added another milestone to her growing list of franchise records, even as her team came up short on the night she reached it, continuing a stretch of efficient scoring nights that has defined her season. Stewart became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 3,000 points with a single franchise, hitting the mark in just 145 games with the Liberty during a 93-86 loss to the Chicago Sky.

The 31-year-old surpassed the previous record held by Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale, who needed 150 games to reach the same total with one team. She finished the night with 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

The milestone drew an emotional response from teammate Natasha Cloud, who joined the Liberty this past offseason and used the moment to push back on what she sees as years of unfair criticism directed at Stewart.

“I feel like the last three or four years, the disrespect to Stewie’s game has been crazy,” Cloud said. “And I don’t understand how, because she continues to play at such an elite level.”

Cloud made clear she believes the numbers speak for themselves.

“Her legacy is going to continue to be built, and she’s still not done yet,” Cloud said. “So to all the s*** talkers, to all the Stewie haters, man, her resume don’t lie. You can’t hate on that resume.”

The achievement continues a pattern that has defined Stewart’s tenure in New York since she signed with the franchise as a free agent in 2023. She has consistently ranked among the most efficient high-volume scorers in the league, entering this stretch of the season averaging over 20 points, eight rebounds, and three assists per game.

Stewart’s Liberty tenure has already been decorated well beyond individual scoring marks. She helped deliver New York its first WNBA championship in franchise history in 2024, adding a Finals MVP award to a resume that already included two regular-season MVPs from her time with the Seattle Storm. She has continued piling up franchise and league milestones in the years since, passing Lisa Leslie on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list earlier this season alone.

Despite Stewart’s historic night, Chicago held on for the win, denying New York the chance to pair the individual milestone with a team victory. Even so, reaching 3,000 points with one team faster than any player before her adds another notable entry to a resume that, as Cloud put it, does not lie.
