Part-owner Cade Cunningham weighs in on Rangers’ playoff hopes
With the NBA offseason in full swing, Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham has plenty of time to devote to his pursuits off the court. In particular, he’s been keeping a close eye on the Texas Rangers, his hometown MLB team (he was born and raised in Arlington, Texas). Cunningham even has a minority ownership stake in the Rangers, so he has some skin in the game when it comes to the AL West side.
While the Rangers have not been playing their best baseball in 2026, they remain right in the thick of the postseason hunt. After securing a 5-0 win over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday, the Rangers moved to 62-64 on the season — just one game back of the AL West leader Houston Astros (63-63).
For the Pistons star, the formula for the Rangers to make it to the postseason is crystal clear.
“Win some games. Hit some home runs. Get some stops. Get outs and home runs. That’s what we need,” Cunningham said, via Mike Curtis of Dallas Morning News.
Cade Cunningham bought a minority ownership stake in his hometown MLB team, the Texas Rangers, earlier this year. His take on what they need to do to get back in the wild card hunt:

The Pistons star basically spelled out what it’s like to play good baseball, and if the Rangers could do that every night, they’d be running away with the AL West considering how poor the division has been on the season.
Cunningham was part of the investing group called Sportsology Capital Partners, which made the purchase of the minority ownership stake in the Rangers franchise back in February. The Pistons star got so much love from the Rangers in 2025, as he threw out the first pitch prior to the game between Texas and the Baltimore Orioles in July of last year.
There is a little over two months left before the start of the 2026-27 NBA regular season, and the Pistons will be looking to keep in step with the other Eastern Conference teams that upgraded this offseason. Cunningham is still waiting for his star partner, Jalen Duren, to re-sign with the team as Detroit still navigates this drawn-out restricted free agency process.
