There’s a new MLB active leader in triples and he’s leading a Diamondbacks playoff push

The Los Angeles Dodgers are still very much ahead in the National League West standings despite their stumbles of late, but the Arizona Diamondbacks are slowly creeping up on them, thanks in part to the strong play of Corbin Carroll.

The former NL Rookie of the Year Award winner is also now leading all active players in the big leagues in terms of triples after collecting the 56th such hit of his career during Saturday’s meeting with the Dodgers. Although the Diamondbacks lost that game, 2-1, Carroll broke his tie with Starling Marte and Mike Trout for most career triples among active big leaguers.

Just 25 years old and already a three-time All-Star, Carroll helped the Diamondbacks rebound from their Saturday loss and defeat the reigning World Series champions Dodgers in the series finale on Sunday at Chase Field in Arizona. Carroll went 0-for-4 and struck out twice, but he scored a run in the second inning off an RBI double by teammate and catcher Gabriel Moreno.

Carroll now has 13 triples on the season. Four more and he would tie his career-best of 17, which he had in 2025. He is also batting .240/.335/.464 with 16 home runs, so far in the 2026 MLB campaign.

With their win on Sunday, the Diamondbacks improved to 63-56, the second-best record in the NL West. They are still 7.5 games behind Los Angeles, but they are still within a shot of earning a postseason spot. As it stands, Carroll and company are occupying the second spot in the wild-card picture in the NL.
