New Premier League club tipped to hijack Liverpool’s move for Bradley Barcola

Liverpool could be set to face competition from defending Premier League winners Arsenal for the signing of Bradley Barcola.

That is according to talkSPORT’s Perry Groves as the Reds push to sign the Paris Saint-Germain winger.

Barcola has remained a target for Liverpool throughout the summer transfer window.

talkSPORT revealed last month that an opening bid was set to be placed for the France international.

Although personal terms have not been agreed, Barcola is keen on a move to Anfield.

Liverpool are set to use the fact he has just two years left on his current deal as well as the player’s desire to not extend his stay in their negotiations.

Transfer battle

However, Arsenal could now be set to enter the race to sign the 23-year-old, according to former Gunners player Groves.

Speaking on Sunday Session alongisde Sam Ellard, the former Gunners star revealed: “I’ve got a source that says he wants to live in London.

“I can’t tell you (who), I can’t divulge my sources. I’ve got a source. I’ve got a mole.”

When pressed on his claim, he simply added: “Barcola wants to live in London.”

Groves was then asked which of the two clubs would suit Barcola more, explaining: “I’ve got no dog in the fight, but I would say the Gooners because Liverpool are a team that are in transition.

“Andoni Iraola going in there, imposing his own philosophy, his own style with all the new signings coming in.

“If you were Barcola and you thought, what out of those two sides have got the most chance of winning the Premier League or Champions League, at the moment you’d say it was Arsenal.

“So it’s whether Arsenal want to go in, if they go in for him, then there would have been advances being made to his people.

“Because they don’t want to be seen losing out on Vinicius Junior being played like a little kitten with a ball of wool, but Arsenal have to be in for those sorts of players. That’s the level Arsenal are at now.”

Arsenal’s winger search

Arsenal had considered making an attempt to lure Vinicius Jr away from Real Madrid earlier in the window.

Despite their strong position in world football, the Brazil international ultimately penned a new six-year deal with the Spanish giants.

Mikel Arteta’s side remain in the market for a new left winger before the transfer window closes, though.

It comes amid interest from Turkish champions Galatasaray in Gabriel Martinelli, who could leave if the position is strengthened.

Leandro Trossard has already departed for Besiktas, with Greek Christos Tzolis since arriving from Club Brugge as his replacement.
