How Jets’ 2025 MVP has taken a step up in 2026 training camp

As the New York Jets try to find their footing in 2026, they’ll be looking at playmakers on both sides of the ball. When it comes to wide receiver, the team’s 2025 MVP may be emerging as a diamond in the rough option at the position.

Isaiah Williams earned his 2025 distinction predominantly due to his work on special teams and behind the scenes. But through training camp, Williams is making a name for himself in the passing game, via Connor Hughes of SNY.

“Isaiah Williams, last year’s team MVP, keeps making plays on offense. He earned praise earlier in the week from Aaron Glenn, who then doubled down after the scrimmage. Williams caught four passes with the starters, including a 36-yard touchdown on the first drive. He later had a 50-plus-yard catch from Cade Klubnik to set up another score with the backups,” Hughes wrote. “He is flashing time and time again. He’s having the best summer of any receiver not named Garrett Wilson.”

“Glenn said he’s someone whose play “demands” more reps. His play has forced the staff to “make sure he’s involved,” He continued. “Williams still works behind Wilson, AD Mitchell and Cooper. I wouldn’t expect that to change. He very clearly is someone who needs to see time with the offense come the regular season, though.”

As Hughes mentioned, Williams is still buried on the depth chart. Garrett Wilson remains the clear leader of the room while first-round rookie Omar Cooper will see plenty of passes go his way.

Still, this is a Jets team that finished the 2025 campaign ranked dead last in passing, averaging 140.3 yards per game. While most of that blame falls on quarterback play, New York will be looking for more from their pass catchers as well.

Which means Williams will continue to get a real opportunity in training camp. And have his performance placed under a microscope.
