Steph Curry shares honest Knicks confession from NBA Draft night
Steph Curry built one of the greatest careers in NBA history with the Golden State Warriors, but his first reaction to getting drafted by the franchise came with a little confusion, Yahoo reports.
During an appearance on Azzi Fudd’s “Fudd Around And Find Out” podcast, Curry admitted he immediately grabbed his phone after Golden State selected him with the No. 7 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft to figure out where the team was located.
“Getting that call from Larry Riley, the GM at the time, Don Nelson, who was the coach at the time, getting that call and being like, ‘Hey, we’re looking forward to having you, we’re excited,’” Curry said. “And then me quickly looking at my phone trying to figure out exactly where Golden State was.”
At the time, Curry had his eyes on another destination entirely.
“All I was thinking about was New York,” Curry admitted. “But careful what you wish for. I’m glad it went my way for sure.”
Steph Curry’s favorite draft night memory was how loud New York fans booed when Golden State selected him at No. 7:
“Well fun fact, not fun fact, horrible fact. That day was the day Michael Jackson passed away — June 25th, 2009. So I heard Jeff Teague tell this story on his pod… pic.twitter.com/LkJfbsPfwz

Knicks fans accidentally created a favorite Curry memory
Curry also shared that one of his favorite moments from draft night came inside Madison Square Garden when Knicks fans loudly booed after Golden State picked him before New York had the chance.
At first, the future Warriors icon did not understand the reaction. Then it clicked.
He realized Knicks fans wanted him to land in New York.
Instead, Curry ended up in Golden State and transformed both his career and the Warriors franchise. The Charlotte native has since become a 12-time NBA All-Star, a two-time NBA MVP and the centerpiece of four NBA championship teams.
What started as confusion about where Golden State was eventually turned into Curry finding a second home nearly 3,000 miles away from where he grew up.
