Spurs best Michael Jordan, Bulls with unreal NBA Finals record

The San Antonio Spurs are facing a near must-win in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. They trail the series with the New York Knicks 2-1, with Wednesday’s crucial battle in Madison Square Garden adding heightened importance.

Through two quarters, it appears the teams will head back to San Antonio with the series all squared up. The Spurs lead at the break, 76-49. You read that right. San Antonio holds a 27-point halftime lead in New York.

That breaks an NBA Finals record for the largest road lead in league history (excluding the 2020 bubble season). The previous record was held by arguably the greatest team ever assembled, the 1996 Chicago Bulls. They led the Seattle Supersonics by 24 points in the Pacific Northwest. That Bulls team, led by Michael Jordan, won the first of three straight NBA Championships.

The Spurs are just hoping to even their series with the Knicks and regain home-court advantage. Barring an insane collapse that would also set an NBA Finals record, that is what will come to fruition.

The Spurs came out white hot in Game 4, knocking down shots from all over the court. At halftime, San Antonio set an NBA Finals record with 14 made triples.

They also moved the ball extremely well, picking up 14 assists to just one turnover. Meanwhile, the Spurs’ defense once again showed its teeth. The physicality and length of the San Antonio guards have given Knicks’ superstar point guard Jalen Brunson problems once again. New York has been lazy with the ball, already up to 10 turnovers early in the second half.

San Antonio leads by 27 points as of this writing, with 9:27 left in the third quarter.
