Mets star Juan Soto gives credit to teammates for grinding through injuries

New York Mets star Juan Soto credited his teammates for pushing through an injury-filled season after Tuesday’s 7-5 win over the Miami Marlins. Soto and Francisco Lindor both delivered at the plate, but Soto turned the focus toward the supporting cast that filled key roles during their extended absences.

Lindor opened the scoring with a first-pitch home run, his 17th of the season. Soto walked and scored later in the first before launching a three-run homer in the second to give the Mets a 5-0 lead. He later added a double as New York built a 7-0 advantage before holding on.

SNY Mets posted a clip on X, formerly Twitter, of Soto discussing the lineup and praising the teammates who continued grinding throughout the season.

“You’ve got give [our teammates] credit. Those guys have been grinding all year long. I know Lindor and I are really good pieces of the lineup, but it’s not always gonna go your way”

The victory improved the Mets to 67-78 and extended their winning streak to three games. New York has won five of its last six despite remaining fourth in the NL East.

Soto has battled multiple calf injuries this season. He missed roughly three weeks in April with a right calf strain before returning the same day Lindor suffered a left calf strain that sidelined him for about two months. Soto later missed another five weeks with a Grade 2 left calf strain before returning August 29.

Those injuries prevented the two franchise cornerstones from spending significant time together in the lineup. Other Mets players also took on expanded responsibilities during their absences. Jorge Polanco underwent season-ending ankle surgery, while Carson Benge, A.J. Ewing, Jared Young, Brett Baty, Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien, and Francisco Alvarez helped fill lineup gaps throughout the season.
