Solo Ball, Tarris Reed Jr. reveals what Alex Karaban meant to UConn after loss to Michigan
Alex Karaban ended his storied career at Connecticut with a tough loss to Michigan in the final game of the NCAA Tournament. But he did not go down without a fight.
Karaban tried to rally the Huskies in the closing minutes. Unfortunately, they fell short against the Wolverines, 69-63, for the national title.
The graduating forward tallied a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds, including big plays in the second half. It reflected Karaban’s effort, desire, and spirit in trying to give UConn another title in his final year.
Solo Ball and Tarris Reed Jr. held back tears in giving props to Karaban during the postgame conference, as shared by TNT Sports.
“I might cry up here. Just talking about the impact he’s had in the locker room, every single practice, every single game, he’s just always there. He’s the same person every single day. He doesn’t change. Incredibly smart, great guy off the court. I’m gonna miss this guy so much. He’s gonna make so much noise, and I know he deserves everything coming his way because of how hard he works,” said Ball.
Reed had to pause, exhale, and compose himself before talking about Karaban’s legacy at UConn.
“It’s tough. He’s like the most passionate, competitive, loyal person I’ve ever met. Just the love for the game, the love he has for us. Just a leader. I’ve never met a person like AK who shows up every day, good game or bad game,” added Reid.
“He’s gonna show up whenever for his team. Like he showed tonight, he gave it his all. Just the true heart of a champion.”

The 23-year-old Karaban ended his colorful journey with the Huskies with two national titles and the most wins by any player in program history. He was the first men’s player to be inducted into the Huskies of Honor.
He could have exited early to apply for the NBA Draft, but he decided to stay at UConn and complete his four-year eligibility, underscoring his loyalty and gratitude to the school.
Karaban is projected as a second-round pick in the NBA Draft in June.
