Rams’ Sean McVay provides Aaron Donald update before final decision on return

The Los Angeles Rams are still waiting patiently for a decision from Aaron Donald on if he’ll come out of retirement to play this season, and it feels like he’s doing everything he can to get in football shape. The Rams have already let it be known several times that he’s being put through workouts, and it could be just a matter of time until he decides to come back.

Head coach Sean McVay has offered updates on Donald throughout the process, and he gave another one after their latest practice.

“McVay said he anticipates more workouts by Aaron Donald before decision is made,” Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

If Donald continues to do more workouts, it feels more like a safe bet that he’ll be playing on the team this upcoming season. If he truly didn’t feel like he was ready to come back, there’s a chance he would’ve stopped at some point.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network shared an update on Donald after his recent tryout with the Rams, which basically just included him putting on a helmet and a pad.

“No doubt the team will welcome him with open arms if he decides to play. It’s fair to say it is trending that way that he would likely play. But there’s been no firm decision, and as he continues to not just work out but see how his body responds, then he is able to make a more informed decision about whether or not he wants to come out of retirement,” Rapoport said.

If Donald does return, the Rams would no doubt have one of the best defensive lines in the league, with Myles Garrett getting traded to the team earlier in the offseason. A Donald-Garrett tandem would be scary for opposing teams, and that’s what the Rams are manifesting.
