Saquon Barkley absolutely baffled by Philly’s trade ‘steal’

Saquon Barkley is fueling new fan energy with his words about the 2026 Philadelphia Eagles offense. The running back believes this NFL Training Camp has sharpened a unit now led by Nick Sirianni offensive coordinator hire Sean Mannion. That includes a trade “steal” Barkley couldn’t stop raving about: Wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks.

Barkley admits he’s in awe of the addition when speaking with Kay Adams on “Up and Adams.”

“Tay is a steal,” Barkley said. “I don’t want to put too much pressure. But this guy can handle it. I love everything he’s about. Shout out to [general manager] Howie [Roseman]. I don’t know how we got him.”

Barkley couldn’t help but continue to gleam about Wicks.

“He just brings a different type of energy for the wide receiver group,” Barkley continued. “Not just because he’s a violent route runner and violent catching the ball. But he puts his face in there and blocks at a high level. So I’m excited about having him on this team this year.”

Wicks arrived to Philly with no history of catching past 40 receptions in his first three NFL seasons. But he fell into a crowded Green Bay Packers wideout room for All-Pro quarterback Jordan Love. Wicks posted back-to-back 39-catch seasons in his first two campaigns before settling on 30 this year.

But he brings 11 career touchdowns in tow to an offense that features more than Barkley. The 6-foot-1 Wicks adds a new field stretcher next to Pro Bowler DeVonta Smith in this room. Plus can form new chemistry with quarterback Jalen Hurts. Wicks now earns a chance to become the WR2 in this room post AJ Brown.
