Brittney Griner remains on injury report ahead of Mercury clash

The Connecticut Sun host the Phoenix Mercury on Friday as they look to snap a five-game losing streak. And they may or may not have reinforcements. Sun center Brittney Griner appeared on the team’s injury report ahead of their game against the Sun, with the nine-time All-Star having missed the team’s last four games.

Brittney Griner was officially listed as questionable on the Sun’s injury report as she’s dealing with a left knee injury. The last time Griner suited up for the Sun was back on July 19 during the team’s loss to the Mercury no less. She finished that game with 19 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots in 31 minutes of play.

Griner has appeared on the report as questionable before during this recent stretch, only to be downgraded to out the day of the game. When healthy, Griner has been a strong presence for the Sun.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft, Griner signed with the Sun as a free agent this past offseason. She’s appeared in a total of 16 games at a little over 25 minutes per game. She’s been averaging 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8 blocked shots with splits of 54.4 percent shooting from the field and 67.7 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

The 13-year veteran began her career with the Mercury and played her first 11 seasons with the franchise before leaving as a free agent in 2025 and joining the Atlanta Dream.

The Sun are in the midst of a trying season and are currently 7-23. They hold the second-worst record in the WNBA and are ahead of only the Seattle Storm at the bottom of the standings.
