Indiana blessed with another last-minute return to roster
The Indiana Hoosiers football program added star defensive end Stephen Daley to the roster on Tuesday due to an injunction ruling giving him the green light to play this coming season. They say lightning doesn’t strike twice, but for Curt Cignetti, it appears that old saying was thrown out the window, as the team got yet another star edge rusher right before the start of the season.
Reports indicate that Kellan Wyatt will return to the Hoosiers for the upcoming campaign, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. It’s said that, similar to Daley, Wyatt was also granted another year of eligibility thanks to a district court eligibility ruling in Colorado. He returns for his fifth year of college football after sustaining a season-ending injury midway through Indiana’s championship run.
“Sources: Indiana edge rusher Kellan Wyatt has been added to the Hoosiers’ roster for the 2026 season, a second key addition this week to an already deep defensive line group,” Thamel reported. “Wyatt started seven games for IU last year before a season-ending injury, registering 8.0 TFLs.
“He’s a Maryland transfer who has started 35 games in his career and has 23.0 career TFLs and 11 sacks,” Thamel continued. “He’s in line to receive an extra year of eligibility, per the Colorado district court eligibility ruling. Indiana added Stephen Daley, who led the Big Ten in TFLs last year, earlier this week.”
Wyatt played seven games for Indiana last season before a serious knee injury that knocked him out for the remainder of the campaign. On top of his eight tackles for losses, he also recorded 27 combined tackles (12 solo) and 2.5 sacks. Kellan Wyatt was well on his way to a career year last season before the injury.
Indiana enters the 2026-27 campaign as the defending college football champions. Although losing some key players from the title team, including Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza, could affect the Hoosiers’ chances moving forward, expectations remain high thanks to head coach Curt Cignetti. The program will play its first game on September 5 for a Week 1 matchup against the North Texas Green Machine.
