Saints news: Son of WWE legend suspended for first 6 games of 2026 season

The New Orleans Saints received disappointing news on Thursday as the NFL announced through its personnel notice that rookie wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner has been suspended for the first six games of the 2026 season. The league did not disclose the reason.

Rechsteiner will still be allowed to participate in training camp and all preseason activities, including exhibition games, before the suspension takes effect when NFL rosters are reduced to 53 players on Aug. 30.

Although the reason remains unknown, the league’s policy includes a four-game suspension for a first offense involving performance-enhancing drugs, while attempts to manipulate a test result carry a six-game suspension.

Rechsteiner joined New Orleans as an undrafted free agent after taking part in the team’s rookie minicamp in May. The former Jacksonville State wide receiver impressed enough during the tryout process to earn a contract, though he entered training camp as a long-shot candidate to make the Saints’ 53-man roster. Even with the suspension, he could still remain with the organization if New Orleans decide to keep him on the 90-man roster through camp or bring him back to the practice squad.

The Saints recently opened roster flexibility after defensive lineman Bryan Bresee suffered a season-ending knee injury and wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk unexpectedly retired.

Rechsteiner recorded 36 receptions for 383 yards and five touchdowns during his final season with the Gamecocks before going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft.

He is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner, while his uncle Rick Steiner is also a WWE Hall of Famer. His cousin, Bronson Rechsteiner, signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent for a short time before pursuing a WWE career as Bron Breakker. Brock Rechsteiner also said in May that he plans to pursue professional wrestling after his football career.
