Brown was asked how communication had been with the 76ers since his trade. Before answering, Brown admitted that he was initially overwhelmed by the trade and did not immediately pay attention to who contacted him first.
“When I first got traded, I just threw my phone across the room,” Brown said.
After thinking about it, Brown identified Tyrese Maxey as one of the first members of the 76ers to contact him following the trade.
“It might’ve been Max. I think Maxey reached out to me first,” Brown said. “He reached out and was like, ‘I know there’s a lot of stuff going on right now, but we’re excited to have you,’ and stuff like that.”
Brown said Maxey and VJ Edgecombe contacted him at approximately the same time as his new teammates began welcoming him to the organization.
“Maxey and VJ were probably around the same time,” Brown said.
Since the trade, Brown said he and his new teammates have communicated almost every day through multiple group chats as they attempt to get everyone aligned.
“We talk to them every day almost,” Brown said. “We got, like, group chats—multiple now—and we all trying to figure this thing out.”
Brown also revealed that LeBron James has already become an active participant in the 76ers’ group conversations.
“LeBron is,,,he’s active in the group chat,” Brown said.
While the activity in the group chat has helped the players connect, Brown emphasized that the team understands the significance of the opportunity in front of it.
“We just trying to all get on the same page,” Brown said. “I think everybody knows how incredible the opportunity that we have, but we also gotta put in the work.”
Despite the star power on Philadelphia’s roster, Brown cautioned that the 76ers cannot bypass the process required to develop into a championship team.
“It takes time,” Brown said. “I understand how that process of winning works. You gotta build from the foundation and build up. You can’t skip steps. So we’re not skipping no steps. We start early.”
