Brian Schottenheimer promises Cowboys’ roster is far from complete

The Dallas Cowboys are currently taking part in training camp as they gear up for the forthcoming 2026 NFL season. The Cowboys are hoping that this year, their defense will be able to catch up to their offense and turn the team into a legit contender.

Recently, several teams across the NFL have made splashes as the new season approaches, including the Texas neighbor Houston Texans signing Jadeveon Clowney.

Now, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has promised that Dallas isn’t opposed to adding some new pieces if anyone becomes available in the coming weeks.

“We’re actively looking as well,” said Schottenheimer, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.

The Cowboys have done well to help shore up their weaknesses on defense this offseason, including selecting safety Caleb Downs out of Ohio State with one of their two first-round draft picks. Dallas was among the worst units in the NFL on that side of the ball last year, a far cry from when they had an elite defense just a few seasons ago.

Meanwhile, Dak Prescott and the offense had a strong season last year, with George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb combining to form one of the most lethal wide receiving duos in the league, and Prescott enjoying what would have been an MVP-caliber year had the team put together a better record.

This year, if the defense can perform at just an average level, and the offense continues its torrid pace, the Cowboys could potentially emerge as a legit contender in the NFC.

The Cowboys will take the field for the first time in the 2026 regular season on September 13 on the road vs the New York Giants.
