Red Sox’s Jarren Duran hits Yankees with double birds after walk-off heroics

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran isn’t having as explosive of a season as fans have been hoping for. However, he had plenty of reasons to celebrate on Sunday.

The Red Sox completed a four-game sweep of their rival New York Yankees, earning a 5-4 victory. After the game, Duran had to hit his rivals with a double middle finger salute, via Morey Hershgordon of 7News Boston.

Boston starter Sonny Gray pitched a no-hitter into the eighth inning as his side held a 2-0 lead. But then the Yankees broke out for four runs between the ninth and 10th inning. The Red Sox didn’t back down from that fight and stole a victory with thee runs in the bottom of the 10th. Duran hit the game-winning single, scoring Masataka Yoshida.

The outfielder had gotten into it with a Yankee fan earlier in the series. Clearly there was some pent up emotion Duran was holding onto. While the Red Sox are still 12.5 games out of the AL East lead with their 36-46 record, they were at least able to exorcise some of their demons against their biggest rival.

Following the series, Duran is now hitting .200 with 12 home runs, 39 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. While his batting average has obviously drawn ire, the outfielder is on pace for a 20/20 season. He hasn’t done that since his lone All-Star appearance in 2024.

The Red Sox are going to need Duran to continue finding his stride if they want to get back into the playoff hunt. But when it comes to his beef with the Yankees, the outfielder came out on top this time around.
