Rays unmatched stats in last 14 games show utter dominance

The Tampa Bay Rays continue to rack up the wins. On Thursday, they won the first game of their three-game series against the Boston Red Sox 8-4.

In the process, they are 13-1 over their last 14 games. Plus, they have scored 57 runs and allowed 21 runs, the fewest runs out of any team during this time, per StatMuse.

The Rays recorded 13 hits against the Red Sox. Yandy Diaz, Junior Caminero, Jonny DeLuca, and Ben Williamson each went 2-for-4. Caminero had a home run, two hits, two runs, and two RBIs. Chandler Simpson went 2-for-2 and recorded 3 RBIs.

It was Simpson who broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run single. Caminero hit a two-run home run in the 9th inning. Diaz captured his 1,000th career hit. In addition, the Rays win their seventh consecutive game.

Starting pitcher Jax Griffin pitched 4.0 innings with three strikeouts, giving up four hits and two earned runs.

The key to the Rays’ success was their pitching and bullpen. They surpassed the franchise record of 12 consecutive games giving up three or fewer runs, set in 2014. Additionally, the Rays’ pitching staff posted a 0.34 ERA over 26.1 innings.

Even with All-Star pitcher Shane McClanahan recovering from Tommy John surgery in 2023 and veteran pitcher Steven Matz placed on the injured list, the Rays continue to hold it down on the mound.

The Rays are now 25-12 and are 0.5 games back behind the New York Yankees in the American League East. Their next game against the Red Sox is on Friday at Fenway Park at 6:10 pm CST/7:10 pm EST.
