Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi gets injury status after late scratch vs. Diamondbacks

The Texas Rangers opened a series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night. Nathan Eovaldi was expected to make the start against the Diamondbacks in the first game of the series. Shortly before the game, Eovaldi was scratched from his start due to left side tightness.

Now, there is an update on the future status of Eovaldi per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com.

“Nathan Eovaldi is going to be day-to-day with left side discomfort,” Landry posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The Rangers’ pitching staff was able to put together a solid performance. Jakob Junis made the start for the Rangers, going two and two-thirds innings, giving up two hits and one run in the first inning. Jalen Beeks, Peyton Gray, Cole Winn, and Tyler Alexander went the final six and a third innings, giving up just four hits and two walks. They would not give up a run, but the Rangers still took the loss.

Texas was only able to string together four hits with one walk, while not scoring a run in the 1-0 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Meanwhile, Eovaldi has been solid for the most part this year. He is 4-4 with a 4.15 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. In the last two starts, both against the New York Yankees, he has pitched 15 innings, giving up just seven hits and one run.

The Rangers will send MacKenzie Gore to the mound on Tuesday and Kumar Rocker to finish the series on Wednesday. Eovaldi is slated to start the final game of a weekend series against the Houston Astros on Sunday.
