Rams’ Trent McDuffie makes emotional admission on trade from Chiefs

The Los Angeles Rams swung a huge trade with the Kansas City Chiefs in the offseason for Trent McDuffie. McDuffie arrives in Los Angeles as the clear top corner on the roster. And he has a chance to help another Super Bowl contender climb the mountain.

McDuffie helped the Chiefs win two Super Bowls during his time in Kansas City. He emerged as a legitimate star at the cornerback position during that time, as well. There is a lot of emotion tied to this trade, as McDuffie explained during a sit-down interview with NFL Network.

“Honestly, I almost cried. Almost. I mean, obviously, there’s a lot of emotions with the whole trade and stuff. Once you understand the team you’re coming to, you know. It’s not like they’re rebuilding or haven’t made the playoffs. They’re contenders already, they were a few plays from making the Super Bowl,” the Rams star said, via NFL Network.

“Then you come back to my family who can see me play all the time now. My niece and nephew are growing up, I can see them on weekends. And just knowing I’m back in Cali… I love it, truly.”

McDuffie was a first-team All-Pro in 2023 with the Chiefs. In four seasons, he recorded 246 tackles and three interceptions. As mentioned, he helped the Chiefs repeat as Super Bowl champions in 2022 and 2023. He also helped them appear in the Super Bowl during the 2024 season, though they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.

McDuffie is excited to be back in California, even with the emotions tied to the Chiefs franchise. He only needs to wait about a month for these games to mean something again. The Rams begin their season on September 10 against the San Francisco 49ers.
