Fever-Sky clash draws near-record-breaking WNBA viewership

The game between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky last Saturday at the United Center in Chicago was a smashing hit. In fact, it was the second most-watched WNBA game in ESPN history, according to the Worldwide Leader in Sports.

“ESPN delivered its second most-watched WNBA game ever for the second consecutive week as the Indiana Fever-Chicago Sky matchup averaged 2.6 million viewers on ABC on Saturday, August 8,” ESPN revealed on Tuesday.

The Fever-Sky showdown had a 79 percent increase in viewership compared to the average of ABC in WNBA regular-season games in 2025. On the season, WNBA games on ESPN are pulling in an average of 1.3 million viewers, which the network noted as a five percent increase year over year.

Fever games are always a big draw in the WNBA, mainly for one reason, and it’s none other than Caitlin Clark. The former Iowa Hawkeyes guard has clearly carried her superstar appeal into the pros, as she continues to enjoy a ton of attention, as evidenced by the crowd the Fever are drawing every game and the viewership Indiana games are recording.

As for the game itself, Clark and the Fever came away with a 90-86 victory. Clark scored 26 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the floor with five 3-pointers to go along with 11 assists, two steals and a block. Kelsey Mitchell, meanwhile, produced 27 points on 11-for-22 shooting from the floor.

The game can also be remembered for the controversial technical foul called on Clark after she inadvertently made contact with a referee. That technical was later rescinded.

The Sky and the Fever will meet again on Aug. 23.
