Yankees call up impressive Triple-A arm

Coming off a series win over the Atlanta Braves, the New York Yankees are now 3-3 on their current homestand. With the start of a new three-game set against the Seattle Mariners coming up Tuesday evening, the Yankees look to continue their climb up the AL East standings. Six games behind the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees’ bullpen could use a boost. Luckily, a new weapon was waiting in the wings in Triple-A. Now, the Yankees will recall reliever Bradley Hanner from Scranton-Wilkes-Barre in an effort to boost their relief corps, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan on X, formerly Twitter.

“The New York Yankees are calling up right-handed reliever Bradley Hanner, sources tell ESPN,” reported Passan on Tuesday. “Hanner, 27, has a 2.10 ERA with 61 strikeouts in 51.1 innings at Triple-A. A 21st-round pick in 2019, Hanner will make his major league debut when Aaron Boone calls his number.”

Hanner looks to bolster a bullpen that has needed fresh blood for a while now. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was busy at the trade deadline, adding to the lineup’s depth with two trades. First was a deal for Washington Nationals first baseman Luis Garcia Jr., in which Cashman sent four pitchers, including relievers Jake Bird and Yovanny Cruz, to the Nationals. Second, a deal for San Francisco Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos saw pitching prospect Henry Lalane head out west alongside infielder Kaeden Kent.

However, enquiries about potential bullpen help, including with the San Diego Padres for their duo of closer Mason Miller and setup man Adrian Morejon. One proposed deal, where the Yankees would have sent starter Will Warren to San Diego for Morejon, was reportedly rejected. Cashman tried to address New York’s biggest weakness, the bullpen, alongside some help at catcher. While the longtime GM was unsuccessful, he quickly signed the recently released veteran catcher Mitch Garver to a minor league deal following his release from the Seattle Mariners. Will he join Hanner in an attempt to bolster a Bronx Bombers roster looking for a postseason berth?
