How Kyle Shanahan, Robert Saleh are helping each other during joint practice

The San Francisco 49ers held a joint practice with the Tennessee Titans, as NFL preseason games are set to begin. It was a good learning experience for new Titans head coach Robert Saleh. Saleh loved being able to talk with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, who is a mentor.

“It’s always good to pick his brain,” Saleh said, per 49ers reporter David Lombardi.

The two head coaches are set to talk more following Tuesday’s intense practice.

“Saleh and Shanahan will talk again tonight after both have watched practice tape to discuss what they saw,” Lombardi posted.

Shanahan has missed some time with this team this offseason, as he was involved in a car accident. The 49ers are excited to have the head coach back on the sidelines.

The head coach is also happy to be back.

“It made it really easy for me not to worry about me having to do something,” Shanahan said, per the team. “Our guys are awesome… We have a pretty well-oiled machine.”

Saleh meanwhile takes over a Titans team looking to improve from a frustrating 2025 season. Tennessee won just three games last year. The Titans have young quarterback Cam Ward, who will lead Saleh’s offense.

The Titans and 49ers are set to play each other in an NFL preseason game. Shanahan says that several 49ers starters won’t play.

“There won’t be many starters playing. We’ll see with injuries today and stuff. That doesn’t mean none. But we’ve got to balance that out,” Shanahan said, per Niners Nation.

The 49ers and Titans will play on Thursday. Saleh previously worked for Shanahan, as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator.
