Packers’ Jordan Love reveals biggest lesson from his time in Aaron Rodgers’ shadow

Before Jordan Love was the proud owner of a $220 million contract, a franchise cornerstone, or Bill Simmons’ “Football Nerd King”, he was the Green Bay Packers QB2 behind Aaron Rodgers.

So naturally, with the Packers set to travel to Pittsburgh for a faceoff against Rodgers, former head coach Mike McCarthy, and the rest of the Steelers, it only makes sense that the 27-year-old quarterback has been asked a lot about his former mentor and their relationship together.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday about that very topic, Love let it be known that he actually learned a lot from playing with Rodgers, as it gave him a new perspective about what a quarterback can do at the line of scrimmage.

“I think being able to sit behind Aaron, and see just the way he was able to control the line of scrimmage, see pressures make, protection adjustments and pick stuff up, was next level, and it gave me something to build up and to see and be like, man, that’s what I want to be able to do,” Love said via WFRV’s Carson Fowler.

“It’s something that I had to put a lot of time in at practice and scout team, obviously getting my opportunities in the game to be able to understand what I have to work on and get better at, but it’s definitely the area I’ve probably came the farthest in.”

After appearing in just 10 games over his first two seasons with the Packers, attempting just 83 passes in the regular season, some openly wondered if Love could be “the guy” long-term. But over the past three years, he’s proven he can consistently be a nine-win regular-season guy, which has led to three straight playoff appearances. All in all, not too bad for Love, who had to wait to play just like Rodgers before him.
