How Rams’ Myles Garrett still impacted Dak Prescott at practice despite injury absence

Myles Garrett didn’t take part in the Los Angeles Rams and Dallas Cowboys joint practice on Tuesday. But Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott still felt the pass rusher’s presence.

Prescott admitted that the lack of Garrett affected some protection plans Dallas prepared to roll out. But even not on the field, the quarterback knew where the newest Rams star was at all times, via Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.

“I definitely heard him out there,” Prescott said of Garrett.

Garrett is dealing with some knee swelling, claiming to be at around 85 percent health. Still early in training camp, the pass rusher has plenty of time to get healthy. And it’s not like he has anything to prove.

Still, the Rams will be paying close attention to Garrett and his knee. They paid a high price to bring the former Cleveland Browns legend over in a trade. Their eggs are now in Garrett’s basket in their quest for Super Bowl glory. A lingering knee injury would deliver a staunch blow to those plans.

Over those nine years in Cleveland, Garrett put up 412 tackles, 239 quarterback hits and 125.5 sacks. He is a seven-time Pro Bowler, five-time All-Pro and two-time Defensive Player of the Year. In 2025 he set the new NFL record for sacks in a season with 23. It’s clear to see why the Rams were so intent on acquiring him.

In Week 15, the Rams and Cowboys will face off in Los Angeles. By then, Garrett and the franchise are hopeful his knee problems will be behind him. Prescott will be prepared to face off against the pass rusher, but if he can avoid him is another story.
