Pistons’ JB Bickerstaff calls out ‘unacceptable’ officiating after Game 4 loss to Cavs

JB Bickerstaff didn’t hold back his criticism of the officiating following the Detroit Pistons’ Game 4 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night.

There were two different stories when it came to the number of free throws both teams took throughout the game. Detroit didn’t get to the line a lot, making nine of their 12 attempts. It was the opposite for Cleveland, who was active at the line with 30 makes out of 34 attempts to show for it.

Bickerstaff pointed out the free throw disparity after the game, per reporter Ashley Bastock. He called out the referees, describing it as unacceptable while admitting that Detroit didn’t do enough to win Game 4.

“It’s unacceptable. We didn’t do enough, obviously, to help ourselves, and I’ll start there. But ever since we came to Cleveland, the whistle has changed. There’s no way that one guy on their team shoots more free throws than our team. We’re not a settle team. We’re not a jump shooting team; we drive the ball attack the paint. So what was done out there tonight?” Bickerstaff said.

“It’s frustrating, but we can’t allow that to be the reason why, because we didn’t play well enough and play to the best of our capabilities. But again, you look at the foul count, you look at the disparity, and that’s hard to overcome, and you wonder the reason why it’s interesting? Since Kenny made his comments publicly about us, the whistles changed in this series.”

How JB Bickerstaff, Pistons performed against Cavaliers

JB Bickerstaff and the Pistons know it’s difficult to win in enemy territory. That’s why they must defend homecourt in the next game.

Four players scored in double-digits for Detroit in the loss. Caris LeVert led the team with 24 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block. Cade Cunningham came next with 19 points and six assists, Tobias Harris had 16 points and eight rebounds, while Paul Reed provided 15 points and four rebounds.

The Pistons will look to take back the series lead when they host the Cavaliers in Game 5. The contest takes place on May 13 at 8 p.m. ET.
