Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber finally ends 2nd-longest HR drought of career

With the Philadelphia Phillies facing the Toronto Blue Jays in the series finale on Sunday afternoon, the game featured a relieving moment for star slugger Kyle Schwarber. As Schwarber has been in an unfortunate home run drought with the Phillies, that was snapped thanks to Blue Jays pitcher Shane Bieber.

In the bottom of the third inning with two on base and Schwarber on a 2-1 count, Bieber threw an 88-mile-per-hour changeup on the outside edge of the strike zone, and the Philadelphia star took his chance, leading to the left-field home run. Before that pitch, Schwarber had been in a 17-game streak with no home runs, tied for the second-longest in his career.

“Kyle Schwarber just took Shane Bieber deep for a three-run HR, snapping a 17-game homerless streak, which was tied for the second-longest homer drought of his career (21 games in 2020 with the Cubs),” Mark Feinsand wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
