Packers’ Matt LaFleur calls out Family Night sloppiness that must be fixed

The Green Bay Packers recently completed Family Night at their training camp. It didn’t go the way that Packers head coach Matt LaFleur wanted. LaFleur was frustrated by his team’s sloppiness.

“Packers coach Matt LaFleur says he counted 20 penalties on Family Night. Some were on special teams, but most concerning was pre-snap, including seven false starts. Early in camp, LaFleur says team needs to clean that up,” reporter Ryan Wood posted to X, formerly Twitter.

The event was hit by humid weather, which LaFleur says may have played a role. He knows his team can perform better than what they showed.

“You’d love to have those guys every day out at practice because I think some of this stuff can be avoidable,” LaFleur said, per the team. “But it’s a lot of good stuff for our guys to look at and learn from and to teach off of.”

The Packers have major expectations heading into 2026. Quarterback Jordan Love says this offense should be phenomenal, as that unit has played a lot of snaps together.

On Family Night, some of that chemistry showed. Love hit young wideout Matthew Golden for a beautiful 50-plus yard touchdown strike.

“I feel like the chemistry between us is growing for sure,” Golden said of his connection with Love.

The Packers definitely have questions though. The defense has to find a way to gel without star Micah Parsons, who is recovering from surgery. The Packers’ defensive line depth is a bit thin without Parsons on the field.

Green Bay made the NFL Playoffs in 2025. The Packers ended up losing to division rival the Chicago Bears in the playoffs.

The Packers start NFL preseason games on August 13. Green Bay takes on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
