Mike Macdonald declares himself an ‘idiot’ on Wemby after Spurs coaches visit Seahawks training camp

The Seattle Seahawks are currently taking part in training camp as they gear up for the upcoming 2026-27 NFL season. The Seahawks are looking to defend their Super Bowl title from a year ago, which they won in blowout fashion against the New England Patriots.

Recently, the Seahawks hosted some members of the San Antonio Spurs’ coaching staff at training camp, with San Antonio looking to bounce back after a brutal loss in the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks this past season.

Now, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald has spoken on the visit.

“It’s been a great visit, great people,” said Macdonald, per the Seahawks’ team website, via Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News.

Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson is a native of Seattle and a fan of the Seahawks.

“We had a great visit with (Johnson) yesterday and kind of talked some shop with him,” he said.

Macdonald also got candid about his own lack of knowledge of the current NBA landscape.

“He’s way more knowledgeable about our team and our game than I am about basketball,” Macdonald added. “I don’t really know Wemby. I’m an idiot right now when it comes to other sports.”

Johnson felt some hot seat pressure from the Spurs’ fanbase after the team’s repeated collapses in the NBA Finals against the Knicks, but he will be back at least for the upcoming year as the team’s head coach.

Meanwhile, no one in the NFL world is riding higher coming into the new season than Macdonald, who proved that young, relatively inexperienced head coaches can win at the highest level in today’s football landscape when surrounded by the right pieces and given time by the ownership.

The Seahawks’ season is set to kick off on September 9.
