Bucks’ Tyler Herro breaks silence on contract status after Giannis Antetokounmpo trade

With Tyler Herro starting a new chapter of his NBA career with the Milwaukee Bucks after being traded from the Miami Heat in the Giannis Antetokounmpo deal, there is the question regarding his contract. As the Bucks trade involving Antetokounmpo and Herro was arguably the biggest deal of the offseason, the guard would speak truthfully about his contract status.

Herro has one year left on his contract and could become an unrestricted free agent if an extension is not agreed upon by Milwaukee and the star. Speaking on Saturday at a youth basketball camp that Herro hosted, he admitted he isn’t too worried about it.

“I’m not really worried about it right now,” Herro said, according to The Associated Press. “It’s a new slate for me, for the coaches, really for the organization as a whole. I don’t think that needs to be a burden over anyone’s shoulders.”

Herro’s connection with the Bucks is an easy one as he was from Wisconsin and watched the team growing up, so there’s no denying that he wants to bounce back after a frustrating last season with the Heat, playing only 33 games due to injuries.

There’s also pressure in being one of the players, along with Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, and Kasparas Jakucionis, that was in the trade for Antetokounmpo, a franchise great. Subsequently, as Herro said, the chip on his shoulder is likely the “biggest” in his career.

“We’ve been through a lot. Just being able to come here with a new slate, a brand-new team, a brand-new organization, a brand-new coaching staff. … We all have chips on our shoulders. Coach Jenkins himself has a chip on his shoulder, the guys who came in the trade with me. It’s not just about me. I think everyone on the team has a chip,” Herro said.

Herro looks to prove people wrong with Milwaukee, hoping to return to his All-Star form from the 2024-25 season, where he averaged 23.9 points, 5.5 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game while shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from deep.
