Pete Alonso makes ‘frustrating’ confession amid brutal start to Orioles career

With the Baltimore Orioles starting the 2026 season, the one area that has been disappointing for many fans has been the performance of star Pete Alonso. As the Orioles star in Alonso is off to a slow start, he would speak truthfully about how he feels during this maddening time.

Through 13 games for Baltimore in his first season, Alonso is batting a .176 batting average to go along with one home run and three RBIs, a stretch that the 31-year-old calls “frustrating,” as he’s not living up to his personal standards.

“I mean, for me, it’s frustrating. I’m sure it is for everybody else,” Alonso said, via Orioles on MASN. “I wish I could have been better, not just tonight, but many nights before. There’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes, so at game time, I can show up and perform. I could say yeah, it’s a long season. It’s coming, but I mean, it stinks for the first couple weeks, not performing up to my standards…I expect more out of myself, and I know other people do as well, so it’s frustrating, but yeah, the best is obviously going to come. ”

Alonso is already up to 17 strikeouts at the plate, with the need to command a better viewpoint of the strike zone, a point that was echoed by the star during his post-game press conference after Friday’s 6-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

“I need to execute better,” Alonso said. “I need to be more consistent, I need to do a better job of controlling the strike zone, and when they come in the strike zone, I need to do a better job of putting it hard in play….But for me, this is not my standard. Results-wise, it’s unacceptable for me, and I will be better. I know that. But yeah, it’s not fun.”

If there’s one thing for sure, it’s still early in the season as Alonso looks to get better and live up to his star status as the series against the Giants continues on Saturday night.
