Penn State QB Rocco Becht reveals 1 ‘off the charts’ spring standout as he recovers from shoulder surgery

Spring practices are underway, and it sounds like the Penn State Nittany Lions might have a stud on the roster. At least that’s what new quarterback Rocco Becht claimed while recovering from shoulder surgery.

Although Becht has not been participating, he has noticed that wide receiver Koby Howard stands out the most amongst the crowd, according to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports. Becht, who transferred from Iowa State in the offseason, seemingly can’t wait to throw the ball to Howard once he recovers from his injury.

“Koby Howard is a name I keep bringing up,” said Becht… “What he’s been able to put on film over the past couple of practices has been unbelievable. The work I’ve seen from him since I got here is off the charts.”

Howard was a true freshman last season who appeared in nine games for the Nittany Lions. Entering the second year of his collegiate career, he could be in for an expanded role in Penn State with Rocco Becht throwing him the ball. Howard ended last season with seven receptions for 133 yards.

It’s not entirely clear what Penn State’s starting roster will look like, as it’s too early in the offseason. However, Koby Howard has a real shot at being the main option in the slot for the offense next season.

As for Rocco Becht, the soon-to-be redshirt senior aims to have a successful year at Penn State. For now, he is focusing on recovering from a torn labrum in his (left) non-throwing shoulder. He sustained the injury in October 2025 and played through the pain to finish his final campaign with the Cyclones.
