Ohio State football’s Ryan Day drops truth bomb on building championship-caliber team

The Ohio State football program is currently gearing up for the upcoming 2026 college football season, which is slated to get underway in one month. The Buckeyes are hoping to bounce back after losing two straight games to conclude last season, including in the playoffs against the Miami Hurricanes.

Recently, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day stopped by ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show and broke down how he is trying to rebuild his team into a championship contender.

“There’s new names in the building and we’ve gotta pull together.. We’ve gotta make sure that everybody in that locker room is coming together for that one common purpose,” said Day, per Pat McAfee on X, formerly Twitter

Day has gotten a couple of different monkeys off his back over the last couple of seasons. In 2024-25, Day and the Buckeyes broke through and won a national championship, largely dominating the competition in the playoffs that year before holding on vs Notre Dame in the big game to secure the win.

Last year, Day finally was able to beat rival Michigan in The Game to conclude the regular season, but that ended up being Ohio State’s last win of the year, as the Buckeyes dropped a thriller against Indiana in the Big Ten Championship Game and then were upset by Miami in their first playoff game.

This time around, Day will hope that the combination of quarterback Julian Sayin and wide receiver Jeremiah Love on offense, along with a defense that is still among the most talented in the country despite losing considerable talent to the NFL this offseason, will be enough to push the Buckeyes back on top of the college football world in 2026.
