Jo Adell reveals first Guardians player to reach out to him after trade

The Cleveland Guardians, in dire need of more offensive production, pulled off a trade with the Los Angeles Angels for outfielder Jo Adell. Adell has struggled a bit throughout the 2026 MLB campaign, but he has some pop in his bat, and the Guardians are hoping to get the best out of the 27-year-old right fielder.

In fact, the newest Guardians right fielder, who batted second in Cleveland’s 6-2 loss to the New York Mets on Tuesday, received a warm welcome from his new teammates. Adell even revealed who the first Guardians player who greeted him was.

“Actually, Travis (Bazzana) was the first to reach out to me, which was really cool,” Adell said, via Mason Horodyski of WEWS.

Bazzana has been the man whom the Guardians have relied on to play second base, and on the year, he is sporting an OPS of .736. He is surely doing his part too to make sure that the team’s new trade deadline acquisitions feel welcome as they gear up for a push for a postseason spot.

But in the end, what Adell is most looking forward to is teaming up once again with starting pitcher Gavin Williams, a former travel ball teammate of his.

“I played actually with Gavin Williams when I was really young. We actually played travel ball together, believe it or not, when I was a kid. A teenager, I guess. But this is a group that knows how to play baseball. And with the additions this team has made, I’m excited to see what happens,” Adell added.

“He always had an arm. I’ll tell you that. Just to see how much better he’s become, it’s pretty cool. Just even facing him and watching him grow over the years, it’s really, really cool stuff.”

The Guardians will now look to bounce back and finish the final two games of their current series against the Mets strong as they wrestle with the Chicago White Sox for the AL Central lead.
