Chargers WR Ladd McConkey’s training camp health update will fire up fans
The Los Angeles Chargers will be one of the most interesting teams to watch at the start of the 2026 season, and a lot of that comes down to all of the changes on offense.
Greg Roman was fired as the Los Angeles offensive coordinator following a disastrous playoff showing last season that saw the Chargers score just three points in a loss to the New England Patriots. Now, former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is in as the new OC, which has led to plenty of excitement about what the Los Angeles offense could look like this fall.
That new-look unit likely includes the resurgence of wide receiver Ladd McConkey, who excelled as a rookie but had a down year in 2025 in his second season. McConkey was struggling with some injuries last year and into the summer, but he is now healthy and ready to get rolling under McDaniel.
"I got healthy this summer. … We're in a good spot."

“I got healthy this summer. We’re rolling,” McConkey said. “Whole new dynamic with a new offense, new coordinator, bunch of new faces around here. I feel like we got off to a great start. Super excited, we’re about to head down to San Diego and get in front of some of the fans down there, put the pads on. So I feel like we’re rolling, we’re in a good spot.”
The Chargers are without Keenan Allen this season, so McConkey will likely have to step up and be the go-to target for Justin Herbert on key downs and in the red zone. The Georgia product could be in for a big year if he can stay healthy, so it’s a good sign that he is feeling good during training camp.
McDaniel is one of the best coordinators in the NFL at getting his best receivers involved and utilizing their strengths, like he did in Miami with both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. McConkey could be the next one to benefit from playing under McDaniel, and he is looking forward to a big year for what should be an improved Chargers offense.
