Brighton hero Solly March could make shock move to their biggest rivals

Crystal Palace are considering a move for former Brighton player Solly March on a free transfer.

March departed the Seagulls at the end of last season, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable 15-year career with the club.

The 32-year-old made over 300 appearances for the south coast cllub, helping the club climb from the Championship to becoming an established Premier League outfit.

Since becoming a free agent, March has continued to use Brighton’s facilities while searching for a new team.

But with the winger revealing to talkSPORT that he was keen to stay in the Premier League, his next move could shock his old fans.

March-ing up the M23?

Crystal Palace are said to be contemplating a move for March, despite being a hero at bitter rivals Brighton.

The BBC report that the Englishman has been recommended to Palace, with the potential deal discussed internally at Selhurst Park.

A new era has begun in south London, with Pierre Sage now in charge of the Eagles, the Frenchman being named as Oliver Glasner’s successor in June.

And it appears the new Palace boss is keen on experience, as talkSPORT also understands ex-Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to join the club on a free transfer.

March would certainly bring proven top-flight experience, having made 194 Premier League appearances since Brighton’s promotion in 2017.

Despite seeing the last three seasons of his Seagulls career derailed by injury, the wideman has showcased his quality before.

In the 2022/23 Premier League campaign, March was Brighton’s third-highest goalscorer with a tally of seven as the club finished sixth, which remains their highest top-flight finish in history.

Appearing on talkSPORT Breakfast recently, March revealed he had been weighing up his options before deciding on his next move.

He told Jeff Stelling and Andy Townsend: “I’ve never been in this situation before, I’ve always been at Brighton.

“It’s a bit of the unknown really, not having a club. I’m just waiting for the right opportunity.

“But I’m fit, which is the main thing for me, and I’m feeling good.”

March also revealed he had received offers since departing Brighton, some of which have come from abroad.

However, he ruled out a a move overseas, admitting the Premier League was his preferred destination.

March added: “For me personally, I still want to play in the Premier League,” March said.

“I definitely think I can do that. Maybe I’ve got to be patient, I don’t know.

“But it’s difficult, you get itchy feet, you’re at home alone and training alone.”
