Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic pulls off insane feat not seen since 1973-74 in comeback thriller vs. Blazers

It has become increasingly clear that Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has spoiled everyone with his all-around genius. Exhibit A: His triple-double against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday hardly grabbed attention.

Jokic has made recording a triple-double so rudimentary that it seems like it barely wows fans anymore.

But it should. Especially when it was to the tune of 35 points, 14 rebounds, and 13 assists, like what he did in their come-from-behind win over the Trail Blazers in overtime, 137-132. Just for kicks, Jokic added five steals and two blocks.

According to the NBA, the 31-year-old Jokic became the first player since the 1973-1974 season to record multiple games with at least 35 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and five steals.

Ho-hum.

For the second straight game, Jokic powered the Nuggets to a gusty victory in overtime after surviving the San Antonio Spurs, 136-134, on Saturday, snapping the latter’s 11-game winning streak.

Jokic tallied 40 points, eight rebounds, 13 assists, and three blocks.

So-so, right?

While Jokic does not really care about fame and glory, he has stated that he is very committed to winning and fulfilling his job for the Nuggets. If that means tallying another triple-double, then so be it.

He is on track to win his fourth MVP trophy, but the so-called voter fatigue might derail Jokic’s chances, even though he has been playing out of his mind.

Jokic is putting up team-highs of 28.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, 10.9 assists, and 1.4 steals. He is set to become only the second player in league history to average a triple-double in back-to-back seasons after Sacramento Kings guard Russell Westbrook.

This is the part where we are obligated to remind everyone that Jokic was a 41st overall pick.
