NFL rumors: Packers aren’t trading for Josh Sweat, but what about Patriots or Cowboys?

The Arizona Cardinals may have a crisis on their hands with edge rusher Josh Sweat. NFL insider Ian Rapoport shot down trade rumors about Sweat leaving for the Packers on Wednesday. But that does not change the fact that Sweat is drawing interest on the trade market. Could he be on the move sooner rather than later?

ESPN’s Dan Graziano listed potential trade candidates around the NFL in his latest article following megatrades involving Myles Garrett and A.J. Brown. It should be no surprise to Cardinals fans that Sweat made the list.

“Sweat is staying away from Arizona’s offseason program and letting it be known he’s not happy there,” Graziano wrote. “An acquiring team would take on a guaranteed $17 million in 2027 compensation for Sweat, and none of the remaining years or money on his contract is guaranteed after that. That’s a good deal for a player such as Sweat and should result in decent outside interest.”

Sweat showed that he can still play at a high level in 2025. He logged 30 total tackles with 12 sacks, four forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery during the regular season.

Graziano named the Patriots and Cowboys as two teams that could be interested in Sweat.

“The Cardinals would take on about $22 million in dead money ($5.505 million this year, $16.515 million next year) if they dealt him, which isn’t a ton in today’s market but means the acquiring team would probably have to make it worth their while with the compensation,” Graziano added. “New England and Dallas would make a lot of sense if Sweat were to be available.”

Cardinals fans should keep an eye on this situation throughout the summer. If nothing happens before the start of the regular season, Sweat could be on the block close to the trade deadline.
