Predicting when Fernando Mendoza will replace Kirk Cousins as Raiders’ starting QB

The Las Vegas Raiders have Kirk Cousins as their starting quarterback for the season, and it felt like a move that was destined to happen after they signed him during the offseason. Even with drafting Fernando Mendoza No. 1 overall in the draft, it seemed like the organization was going to be fine with sitting him so he could get the experience he needed before starting.

As of now, Cousins gives the Raiders the best chance to win, and they’ll be leaning on him to elevate the offense. The schedule isn’t that kind to the Raiders to start the season, and if he doesn’t live up to their standards, there’s a chance that he could be benched for Mendoza.

Their first game against the Miami Dolphins is very winnable, and if Cousins can get a win against them, that could be the start of a new era for the team.

Unfortunately, their next game will be against the Los Angeles Chargers, which will be a tough matchup. They’ll get a break in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints, but they could be much improved from last season on both sides of the ball.

The next four matchups will be against the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams, and that could tell them a lot about where Cousins stands. If they lose all four of those games, and if the quarterback play is not up to par, Kubiak could start contemplating whether he wants to make a change.

It could be a chance that Mendoza gets his first start against the New York Jets at the time, which is not a bad game to start, depending on what the Jets look like by that time of the season.
