NBA rumors: Would Heat dare trade for Ja Morant after Giannis Antetokounmpo blockbuster?

The Miami Heat have already transformed the NBA landscape by acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks, but league insiders remain skeptical that another blockbuster involving Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is on the horizon.

In their latest report for The Stein Line, NBA insiders Jake Fischer and Marc Stein addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding Morant’s future and evaluated several potential landing spots, including Miami.

“Our search for a confirmed Morant trade suitor continues,” Fischer and Stein wrote.

The insiders noted that multiple rumored destinations have already been ruled out.

“We wrote on Tuesday that the Pelicans, despite persistent speculation to the contrary, have not pursued Morant at all this offseason.”

Fischer and Stein also reported that the Minnesota Timberwolves were never serious contenders before acquiring LaMelo Ball in a blockbuster trade.

“The Timberwolves were likewise insistent for days that they would not go after Morant, then slammed the point home with their very speedy close on a trade to acquire Ball.”

That leaves the Heat as another team frequently mentioned in speculation, particularly after landing Antetokounmpo. However, Fischer and Stein questioned whether the pairing would make basketball sense.

“We presume you might want to ask us about Miami,” Fischer and Stein wrote.

“But we’re certainly skeptical that the Heat would be eager to pair Morant with Antetokounmpo given the obvious floor-spacing issues they would face as a duo.”

The concern centers on offensive fit. While Morant remains one of the NBA’s most explosive guards and Antetokounmpo is among the league’s most dominant interior forces, neither player is known as a high-volume perimeter shooter. Pairing the two could create spacing challenges that complicate Miami’s half-court offense despite the immense talent each player brings.

The Heat have already committed significant resources to acquiring Antetokounmpo. Miami sent Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, multiple first-round picks and additional draft assets to Milwaukee in one of the biggest trades in franchise history.

With Antetokounmpo now serving as the centerpiece of the roster alongside Bam Adebayo, Miami’s priority appears to be building complementary depth rather than pursuing another ball-dominant superstar.

Morant, meanwhile, remains under contract with Memphis, and Fischer and Stein indicated they have yet to identify a confirmed team actively pursuing the former All-Star.

While the NBA offseason has already featured several blockbuster moves, the latest reporting suggests a Heat pursuit of Morant is unlikely despite continued speculation surrounding the Grizzlies guard.
