NBA rumors: What Thunder are telling thirsty Chet Holmgren trade suitors

The Oklahoma City Thunder saw their dream of back-to-back championships come to an end with their ousting in the Western Conference semifinals. And while the loss may suggest a return to the drawing board as they attempt to rekindle championship aspirations for next season, they appear to have no intention of entertaining trade offers for Chet Holmgren.

It seems as if the Thunder have already received calls for a potential Holmgren trade from multiple suitors, per RealGM. However, the 2025 NBA Champions are understood to have told those teams that Holmgren is not available for any trade.

Holmgren undoubtedly had his struggles during the conference semifinals, which was effectively a constant against the Spurs throughout the campaign. However, the 24-year-old is starting a five-year, $239 million rookie scale extension in the coming season and is projected to earn $41.2 million.

That is undoubtedly going to contribute the OKC’s flirtations with the second apron. However, it is not enough for Sam Presti to entertain a trade, and the Thunder are instead determined to build around their current big 3 of Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, Jalen Williams and Holmgren.

Of course, that is exactly what ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel had recently reported, with rumors of a Giannis-Holmgren swap also coming up in recent weeks. However, OKC are determined to keep hold of Holmgren despite his struggles in the series against the Spurs.

Holmgren failed to reach the 15-point mark in six of the seven games, scoring 16 in Game 4, and did not look at ease against Victor Wembanyama throughout the series. Before that, he had a combined 42 points in four regular season games against the Spurs and shot at less than 40% overall.

Regardless, Holmgren still has time on his side and is likely to have learned his lessons, which came against the freak of nature that is Wembanyama.
