Rays’ Shane McClanahan suffers injury scare vs. Rangers
The Tampa Bay Rays are taking on the Texas Rangers on Thursday as Tampa aims to earn its 64th win of the season. Unfortunately, Shane McClanahan was forced to exit the contest early due to an injury scare.
Reports indicate that the 29-year-old left-hander sustained an apparent lower back injury, according to Rays’ sideline reporter Ryan Bass. McClanahan was seen reaching toward his lower back and attempting to stretch it out. The severity of the injury is currently unknown as Tampa Bay will evaluate the situation before making an announcement.
“Shane McClanahan exits early and walks off with head athletic trainer Joe Benge after reaching for what looked like his lower back, then stretching it out,” Bass reported. “Awaiting word on the extent of the injury. McClanahan never wants to come out, so hopefully it’s just precautionary.”
The four-year veteran was pulled out after 3.0 innings of work against the Rangers. He recorded three strikeouts while allowing two walks and one earned run. Since his exit, Rays manager Kevin Cash has played Casey Legumina, Cam Booser, and Craig Kimbrel out of the bullpen so far, with the game in the top of the fifth as of this publishing.
This story is currently developing, and more information will be published soon.
