NBA rumors: Heat insider reveals what Giannis Antetokounmpo ‘associate’ said about Miami vs. Boston
With the rumors around the Miami Heat and Giannis Antetokounmpo elevating ahead of Tuesday night’s NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics are also considered a finalist, which could complicate matters. As the Heat and Celtics are gutting it out for Antetokounmpo, this insider speaks on how it has come to this point.
While Miami has been a prime destination for Antetokounmpo for a long time, there could be some people wondering why the star wouldn’t specifically request Milwaukee to trade him to the Heat. Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald dropped the reality, which is an associate of the player saying that Antetokounmpo “would be OK” with Boston as well.
“I asked Giannis associate why not say Miami and only Miami,” Jackson wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Answer was: As much as he would love to be in Miami, he would be OK with Boston too. It was conveyed to at least one (far) West team that he would not extend there, which dissuaded that team. But Giannis camp ultimately was not going to try to dissuade every team.”
The packages for Giannis Antetokounmpo between the Heat and Celtics
Shams Charnaia would report a huge update on the Antetokounmpo saga, saying how a trade and resolution to the matter is coming before Tuesday night’s NBA Draft. Looking at the finalists in the Heat and Celtics, both offer “vastly different” packages, with the latter featuring star Jaylen Brown and the former focused on “significant” draft assets and “cost-controlled” players.
“Giannis, from my understanding, is ready to be traded,” Charania said. “With the Boston deal, you have Jaylen Brown, a superstar-led package. There are additional pieces,” Charania said.
“In Miami, there are more players involved, more cost-controlled rookie scale contracts. There’s more draft capital involved there. These conversations have been a blood bath,” Charania continued.

There’s no doubt that, besides expected players like Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. in a Miami package, the No. 13 pick on Tuesday will be featured. It remains to be seen what happens, though a finality to the situation appears to be on the horizon.
