MLB rumors: Braves’ Tarik Skubal trade cost revealed amid ‘sleeper’ status

With Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal receiving lots of trade interest, yet another team is expressing interest in him. That is the Atlanta Braves, who look to run away with the National League East this season. A new report goes into detail about how hard it will be for Atlanta to nab Skubal.

“The cost could be two of their top-10 prospects, including one who’s in the top 100 overall,” USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale wrote on Sunday.

The Braves have been one of baseball’s biggest surprises. Atlanta has led the NL East for virtually the entire season. The club is 48-27 on the campaign.

Atlanta joins several other clubs including the Philadelphia Phillies as suitors for Skubal. The San Diego Padres, New York Yankees and even the Tampa Bay Rays are also rumored to be involved.

“The sleeper in the Tarik Skubal sweepstakes, several executives predict, will be Atlanta,” Nightengale added.

Skubal is back healthy and throwing heat after his elbow injury. He was effective on Friday for the Tigers, in a start against the Chicago White Sox. Detroit defeated Chicago in that game as Skubal recorded eight strikeouts in his start.

It is murky regarding Skubal’s chances of being traded. Many Major League Baseball insiders speculate the Tigers won’t even take phone calls at the moment on Skubal. Others like Ken Rosenthal believe Skubal will definitely be on the move.

Time will tell. The Tigers ace has plenty of interest. He has won the American League Cy Young in 2024, and 2025. His emotion was running high on Friday, during his start against Chicago. Skubal got into a shouting match with a White Sox player.

The MLB trade deadline is August 3. Detroit is currently 32-44 on the campaign.
